NZARM Webinars - Using systems thinking to solve real-world problems

Have you ever had to work through complex issues with your farming clients, things that can't be easily modelled in Farmax or Overseer?

Terry Parminter will assist you in using system thinking to consider the big picture, find solutions to problems, and realise opportunities with your farmer clients. It will not be about drawing systems diagrams but rather about a way of thinking that encourages creativity and more effective decision-making so that we can address the problems that are important to our clients, provide options to suit their needs, and have clear criteria for evaluating success in terms that are meaningful to them.

Webinar Presenter

After Terry Parminter graduated from Massey University with an Agricultural Science degree, he began a career in agricultural extension. In 1980 this was with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, then AgResearch, and then in private agricultural consultancy.

Terry joined NZARM in 1998 when he began integrating environmental practices into farm management systems. In 2009, Terry completed a Ph.D. at Waikato University in Management Systems, focusing on the management of human and social systems.

Since then, his systems thinking has continued to evolve as he has worked with international systems academics, New Zealand industry leaders managing complexity in agricultural projects, and farmers and their advisers trying to make sense of challenging issues and real-world opportunities.
